Designer Carina Johansson

When Carina accompanied a friend to a ceramics course for the first time it was mostly as company. After that followed several more courses and an education in the world of ceramics.

In 2012 she resigned from her current profession and started her production of handmade stoneware. Today she has a studio in an old charming industrial building  with  worn concrete floor and large beautiful windows with iron bars. Outside the window wild grape vine leaves shines beautifully in glowing autumn colors, inside, Carina creates her series of stoneware tableware in earthy tones with a flirtation of Asian influence.

Together with her customers Carina assists choosing    shapes and colors that will suit the restaurant's meals and environment.

I have a showroom with several different samples of what I have made, this makes it easy for customers to get inspired and select what they would like, says Carina.

When I have accumulated a little too much merchandise I open up the studio and have a stock clearance.

Carina's stoneware is dishwasher, microwave and oven safe, which are  requirements to withstand the hard wear and tear of restaurants.  Her unique handmade ceramics are only available in a limited edition.

Larger editions and series are produced together with a Swedish producer.

When I have the time and inspiration I also make sculptures says Carina. I like my sculptures to  have a function, for example hooks to hang jewelery or keys on or  include  a secret hiding place. You should be able to use the sculpture, not just to look at it.

Art to enjoy & use!
